At The Forum we believe that L&D should provide learning that fulfils our members’ ambitions and their customers' needs while transforming the experience of working in our professional communities from job to career.

Working in close partnership with our members’ leadership teams, we aim to make every day an opportunity to prove and improve your skills by offering support through continuous assessment, coaching and access to specific modular training.

 

A new knowledge ecosystem

Do you ever feel that your role is so specialised that most training is either irrelevant to you or prohibitively expensive? So do we.

At The Forum we have a clear vision: professionalise our communities. So, this year we took on the challenge of designing and delivering professional development that is completely bespoke to your needs, yet completely affordable.


First step - Make it relevant: We started by literally taking apart our existing courses, the very ones that have won us ongoing recognition and support for the last 18 years. From just a few courses we quickly derived more than 120 modules of learning that have gone to form the backbone of our academy framework. Modular training means you can pick and mix the exact content that will add most value to your organisation and by aligning them to tiers of difficulty and job roles, you can easily design your very own personal development plan. We even had an unexpected bonus; modular training is making it easier to share learning and there are already 6 modules being developed by our members and professional services network.


Next step - Make it accessible: Running a training event isn’t cheap and there are substantial starting costs to be considered but once they are covered, adding an extra person isn’t a huge cost. Our problem is that bespoke training isn’t normally scalable, and the setup costs are incurred time and time again. Our solution? Public Academy events. These events are predominantly hour-long webinars that cover a single module. Once a member company has requested it and guaranteed a minimum number of places, they can opt to allow others to attend their event, allowing everyone else in the forum community to attend at incredibly low prices.


Progress so far: We have just started on this transformative journey, with the first modular training taking place last month, yet nearly 200 people are now enrolled in academies, our list of modules has grown to more than 150, the first 10 public webinars have been selected and are being scheduled and we are all bracing ourselves for a very busy autumn indeed.


Want more? We are already looking at the next innovations. Top priority is to leverage the incredible knowledge ecosystem that is The Forum. From the most junior member to our partners Ulster University and all the companies that we work with, everyone has something worth sharing that others can learn from or challenges they could overcome by applying new methods. Simply put, we learn better together, and we want to make that as easy as possible.
